We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. I would suggest the use of a small bold sub-head to create a hierarchy which would replace the need for arrows, then combined with an added touch of little {FIG:01} next to things on the character. If you absolutely have to point something out a clean straight line would do. pretty much the arrows distract from your illustration which is kind of the best part of the graphic.
